How the situation is viewed by an indian

By: Manoj joshi

The news published by Reuters with regard to Pak army defying US and having decided against attacking Haqqani group will read differently by different groups and people. A majority of Indians will read this news as a clear indication of Pakistan supporting insurgency, fundamentalism and terrorism while a majority in Pakistan will read this news with concern and apprehension and an antipathy for the US. But, what is the real story? Are Pakistan and US going to split as allies in their war against terrorism? Will this be a simple decision for the Pakistan Army to take and implement? Will this affect badly the existence of Pakistan? What will the impact be on India? These are some of the various questions readers will ask and discuss. A common statement usually heard in India is that Pakistan is now a failed state whose life is too short. Is this the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Indeed, Pakistan is going through one of the toughest phases of their history and their very existence is being seen by various nations across the globe with a doubt and asceticism. This is indeed unfortunate for Pakistan and their identity which is under question. The entire picture or the real picture with regard to the situation on the Pak-Afghan border is not fully known to the citizens of India infect even the citizens of Pakistan would not be fully well versed with the reality. Hence with an objective frame of mind and an empirical approach all that can be said or stated is that the Pakistan Army and their officers will know what is best for their country. If they have defied the US then they must have strong reasons behind it which we in India may not know. My view no doubt will be perceived by many as pro-Pakistan or a view of a Pakistan agent whichever way the reader perceives it to be but the truth is seldom known to the common man. Getting critical about Pakistan simply because bilateral relations between India and Pakistan have not been very cordial in the past will indicate a clear prejudice. General A Kayani has been holding meetings with his officers and they as an organization will know what is best and in the defense interests of Pakistan. Hence arriving at any conclusion or drawing any inference without knowing the whole truth will not be appropriate.
