The Magic Pen – Short Story

Short Story Written By: Gufran Sikandar
Once there was a child whose teachers were not satisfied with his classroom progress and the boy was lazy and has no interest in studies rather spending time in watching cartoon films or playing with different toys. Exams or tests were not more than a nightmare for the little boy. He thought that if a fairy could come and solve his miseries with the jiffy as his grandmother’s often told fairy tales or he could get a magical lamp with the jinni who could attempt his papers within seconds with the absolute correct answers. He thought in this way his father would be so happy with his results. And he would have lot of leisure time to play with his toys and watch favorite television shows. One day he shouted with joy and said eureka ‘I got the solution’, and it was to get a magic... pen which could write anything as per commands, but the problem was that how could he get the magic pen?
Days passed smoothly and his desire was still not fulfilled instead got stronger than ever. One day he went to his ¬Papa and asked anxiously ‘Papa I need a magic’ which help me to get maximum marks in the exams. His father smiled while looking at him and said son why are you worried? Because getting a magic pen is not a big deal for any child and you may get it by study hard and spending time with the books. Little kid was unable to get the meaning of his father’s given solution and he was desperate and uneasy because his last hope was broken. He decided to talk to his best friend who was his classmate as well, but his friend was astonished of such desire and could not help him. His friend said only fairy mother could help you in this matter but she lives so far that we may not get her. By the passage of time the boy grew up and he forgot what his desire was when he was a kid. At University he learned how to study and what are the ways of empowering the memory and his results were great, so that his father was so proud of his son and his father told him my boy now you got the magic pen which never stops and your pen writes anything as you command. After hearing father’s words his past memories came out into his mind that when he was a kid what his wish was. He said proudly to his father on that time it was not possible for me to understand how to get the magic pen and my innocent mind was unable to get the meaning of your philosophical reply, but now I got what you were trying to say actually every ordinary pen can turn into a magic pen if we study hard and don’t waste our time in unproductive activities and playing games is not a bad idea but we as kids should balance our study and fun time.
